Sherwin Williams has officially announced their 2021 Color of the Year : Urbane Bronze. If you’re paying attention to color trends, darker hues have hit the scene with a vengeance. They are frequently being used in concert with light colors- especially white- but the trends are also showing a lot of combinations of primarily darker colors. Our recent trip to the pre-market of High Point’s Furniture Market showed many manufacturers and furniture designers opting for very rich tones and colors to showcase their products.
As for Urbane Bronze, Sherwin Williams believes it to be a color that is “nature-inspired” that elicits feelings of calming energy. It complements organic elements in a room as it has a warm hue and can coordinate with natural woods, natural linens, plants, etc.
If the darker color is too intimidating, it can be coordinated with lighter colors- such as Sherwin Williams’ Modern Gray and also, going even lighter, Shoji White. Modern Gray is a very warm color- not a cool gray like you might expect from the name. Shoji White is often a favorite of mine.
You could also use Urbane Bronze as an accent with a truer white as the primary color. Mix that paint combination with some natural elements- perhaps a cognac leather chair and a sofa with textured fabric- and a very simple, modern, yet organically inspired aesthetic could be achieved. Below I’ve created a living room concept board utilizing Urbane Bronze and mixing modern, bohemian, natural, and textured elements with a muted color palette.
What do you think? Are you a fan of Urbane Bronze?
